What is the difference between hot and cold-rolled steel?

The main difference between hot and cold rolled steel is the temperature at which they are processed. Hot-rolled steelwork is processed at a temperature of around 1700°F, whereas cold-formed steel is done at room temperature – allowing the creation of exact shapes. Since the process is performed at room temperature, the steel will not shrink as it cools, as it does within the hot-rolled process.

What are the benefits of cold-rolled steel?

What are Kit Buildings UK’s lead times?

At Kit Buildings UK, we promise your building to be on site within 4 – 6 weeks from the point of order to delivery. However, our team will do our best to have the building with you sooner.

Where do you deliver to?

Kit Buildings UK delivers UK-wide, from the highlands and Islands of Scotland to Land’s End and over the sea to Ireland and the Channel Islands.

Can Kit Buildings UK complete our entire project – including site works?

While you can enjoy short turn-around times on kit-only buildings, we can also offer a full turnkey project. This includes ground preparation, concrete/foundation works and erection of the building. Our team has the extensive industry experience and will focus on completing your contract to the highest standard.

How are our buildings designed?

Every industrial & commercial structure is CE Marked and fully engineered for the specific site location and building use. Additionally, all our steel is made by fully ISO-accredited manufacturers to meet all British & European Standards. Our steel buildings are not supplied from stock, but each is designed bespoke to the customer’s requirements. Whatever our client requires, we will have a solution, whether it be a small domestic steel garage or a large industrial steel unit. Kits are delivered within 5 weeks of order placement to any location within the mainland UK.

All buildings are designed using advanced structural and detailing software. This package takes all factors into consideration to produce a fully engineered report on the design of your building. From this, we can also produce specific drawings and design calculations.

Do our buildings come with warranties?

Our buildings come with all the relevant warranties you would expect. This includes a 50-year design life guarantee, along with a manufacturer warranty.

Do I need planning permission for my new building?

We are very aware that each site is different and not all buildings are constructed under the same specifications. Some of our buildings will require planning, depending on location, surroundings, rights of way, flooding, etc. We would recommend speaking to one of our friendly advisors or your local authority planning department, who can advise you of this. English councils can be found here, and Scottish councils can be found here.

At Kit Buildings UK, we have a design and planning department that can assist you in your planning application. We submit applications and prepare all documentation, supplying all relevant drawings and calculations required too. Please contact us on 01576 227 150 to discuss your requirements further.
